    Sources and methodology

Each account is counted if it performed at least one signed action during the selected day, week, month or quarter, classified as a member or wallet at the time of the action.

Each member is counted once per identity, and each wallet once per public key. An account can appear in both categories within a period if its status changes.

Outgoing transfers and certifications created or renewed in v1 exports. Signed extrinsics in v2, including those whose execution failed. Recipients and automatic dividends are not counted.

Weeks start on Monday. Months and quarters follow the UTC calendar. Quarters start in January, April, July and October. Weekly, monthly and quarterly points are unions of accounts, never sums of daily counts. Periods at the boundaries may be partial. The last day received is excluded.

The transition to v2 took place on 7 March 2026. v2 SS58 identifiers are converted to public keys to deduplicate accounts across both versions. Ğ1 started on 8 March 2017.

In v1, membership changes in a block are applied before classifying the actions recorded in that block. In v2, the signer is classified at the start of its extrinsic, after earlier events in the block. A former member account whose key has been replaced becomes a wallet.

A signature records account activity, not a person. The v1 scope covers transfers and certifications. v1 membership entries and exclusions are reconstructed from historical blocks, verified against the export hashes. v2 membership and key changes are replayed in event order.

The “New identities” curve counts each identity when it becomes a member for the first time, even if it performed no other action during the period. Renewals, readmissions and key changes are not new identities. Members carried over during the v1 → v2 migration are not counted again.

Inactive accounts with a positive balance are counted per public key. They must have signed before, with their last signed action more than six calendar months ago. Accounts that have never signed are excluded. Membership status and balances are evaluated at the same finalized block. Total balances include free funds, reserved funds and unclaimed UDs. For this account count, activity does not follow an identity when its key changes.
